OKLAHOMA CITY (February 22, 2024) – WPSL PRO confirmed today that veteran side, Dakota Fusion FC has formally submitted an official LOI, joining seven other prominent clubs preparing for the league’s debut season next year. With the announcement, Dakota Fusion FC will begin its WPSL PRO campaign in the 2026 season.

“Dakota Fusion FC is excited to be changing the landscape of women’s soccer by bringing WPSL PRO to North Dakota,” Sajid Ghauri, Dakota Fusion FC president and CEO, said.

“The upper Midwest produces many talented female players, coaches, and referees who have gone unseen, and we look to change that through participating in the WPSL PRO.”

Amanda and Sajid Ghauri founded Dakota Fusion in 2016 after seeing just how little opportunity and resources were available to promising players in the Fargo area.  The Ghauri’s mission for the Fusion was to bridge this gap and provide young players with opportunities to take their talents to the next level and fulfill their soccer aspirations.

Dakota Fusion FC joined the National Premier Soccer League in 2017 before entering the WPSL in 2018 and has competed in the highly competitive Northern Conference with talented clubs from Minnesota and South Dakota for the last five seasons.

“We are thrilled to receive an LOI from Dakota Fusion FC,” Sean Jones, WPSL PRO president, said.

“They have competed in the WPSL for several years now, so to receive their commitment for WPSL PRO illustrates our mission of providing a clear, developmental pathway for our athletes and the women’s game.”

Dakota Fusion FC’s name was built on inclusiveness and love for soccer in Fargo’s diverse soccer community. Since 2016, the club’s mission has been to provide a quality soccer experience through inclusivity that can inspire, encourage, and empower Fargo’s youth through participation in the sport.

“It’s always encouraging to see current WPSL teams share our vision with WPSL PRO, so to receive an official LOI from Dakota Fusion FC proves we are building something that will not only impact the league’s development but elevate women’s soccer at all levels,” Benno Nagel, WPSL PRO project director, said.
