OKLAHOMA CITY (September 12, 2024) – WPSL PRO is pleased to announce Indios Denver FC has signed an official Letter of Intent (LOI) to become the 12th franchise set to compete in the inaugural WPSL PRO season kicking off in 2025. Indios Denver FC has served as one of the cornerstone franchises of the Women’s Premier Soccer League in the Rocky Mountain region since entering the WPSL for the 2019 season.
“It is truly an honor for us to be bringing a professional women’s team to our state through WPSL PRO,” Oscar Gonzalez, Indios Denver FC founder, said. “Colorado is a host to incredible female talent and we are deeply committed to supporting the growth of professional women’s soccer here.”
Founded as a non-profit boutique soccer club based in Denver, Colo., Indios Denver FC operates with a mission of empowering youth through soccer by making the game accessible to all, regardless of background or financial means, and creating a positive, enriching experience for every participant that fosters a love for the game while promoting personal growth, community engagement, and lifelong friendships.
“Adding another current WPSL organization to our portfolio just proves how widespread our shared vision is for the women’s game on this platform,” Benno Nagel, WPSL PRO project director, said. “Indios Denver FC has proven its impact on and off the field, advancing the sport in the Denver metro, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have them onboard to launch WPSL PRO with us.”
With its commitment to WPSL PRO, Indios Denver FC now features women’s professional soccer, women’s and men’s pre-professional, and both competitive and recreational girl’s and boy’s programs. The club’s men’s side competes in the United Premier Soccer League, the largest pre-professional men’s league in the United States.
“We are extremely happy with the direction we are going as an organization,” Gonzalez said. “For the last five seasons, we have worked hard, through our participation in the WPSL, to provide the kind of space and environment in Denver for adult amateur female soccer players to develop themselves individually and as part of a team.”
The 2024 WPSL season was Indios Denver FC’s most successful league campaign after going 5-1-2 and finishing tied for second place on points in Rockies Division play. Indios’ WPSL rosters are typically 70% current collegiate players that are rounded out by elite youth and post-collegiate players. Indios is 19-9-22 all-time in WPSL play and appeared as a wild card selection in the 2022 Central Region Playoffs.
