OKLAHOMA CITY (August 23, 2024) – WPSL PRO announces further expansion ahead of 2025 launch as the league gains more ground on the Atlantic Coast. With the announcement, WPSL PRO confirms it has received an official Letter of Intent (LOI) from Soda City FC out of Columbia, S.C.

“We are excited to join the WPSL PRO as it will complete the player pathway for our female athletes and provide them the opportunity to play at the professional level,” Tony Baker, Soda City FC president, said. “The WPSL has been a successful platform for our amateur athletes, and we are confident that WPSL PRO will continue to deliver the same results at the professional level.”

Soda City FC was founded in 2018 by passionate players in Columbia, S.C. who were striving to extend the playing careers of local and surrounding athletes by providing competition at the highest level of professional soccer development.

“Soda City’s inclusion in our league opens up a tremendous market in the Southern Region, along with Georgia Impact and the Atlanta metro, that helps us form the nucleus of what we think is going to be a really top-class regional footprint for WPSL PRO in that part of the country,” Benno Nagel, WPSL PRO project director, said.

Soda City’s commitment further widens WPSL PRO’s national footprint as the league solidifies its 10th market with reach across both coastlines and vertical borders.

“Soda City FC is committed to bringing women’s professional soccer to Columbia.  This is a monumental step for our community, not only promoting the growth of soccer but also empowering women in sports,” Baker said. “Our mission is to promote equality through the power of professional soccer in our region.  Our club will be guided by its five pillars of CommUNITY, Inclusion, Character, Opportunity and Leadership.”
